Alamere Falls

Alamere Falls is located on the Point Reyes Shoreline. It is a dramatic waterfall that cascades over a 40 foot tall cliff that flows into the ocean. One of only two "tide falls" in California. The other being McWay falls in Big Sur. This is the only one however that you can actually hike down to. This is a 13 mile hike, but if you take the shortcut it narrows it down to closer to nine miles. Although the shortcut is a little more dangerous, I feel it is worth the extra adventure. However it is the site of many search and rescue operations each year so be mindful of getting too close to the cliffs edges. This hike begins at the Palomarin trailhead in the southern end of the park. For the long route you take the Coast Trail to Wildcat Camp, then hike down the beach until you see the falls. For the shorter more adventurous route you follow the trail until you see an arrow made out of rocks pointing into bushes. This is about four miles in and very important not to miss. The first time I saw it, it looked like a creepy lure into bushes and I kept going lol. This short cut takes you directly to the top of the falls. This is a beautiful tri-level waterfall. This hike is long, but not too hard at all. Do make sure to bring plenty of water and some snacks as it will take up a good part of your day. This is one of my favorite hikes because it takes you along the coastline, then into the mountain that passes through areas that look like a tropical jungle, pass two lakes, Pelican and Bass Lakes, which you can backpack into and camp at as well. Of all the hikes I've done, this is definitely one of my favorites!
